 World Health Organization (WHO)
Resolution on Rehabilitation 
 

A resolution on ‘Strengthening Rehabilitation in Health Systems’ was adopted by member states at the recent 76th World Health Assembly. This resolution represents a milestone in political will and support for rehabilitation. The resolution calls for a number of measures to strengthen global access to rehabilitation services, including:
  • Strengthening integration of rehabilitation into national health plans and policies
  • Improving financing mechanisms for rehabilitation services
  • Expanding rehabilitation to all levels of health, from primary to tertiary care
 
The resolution is available on the WFOT website for your use in your advocacy for occupational therapy.
 
 

 WHO 3rd Global Rehabilitation 2030 Meeting

WFOT was represented at the recent WHO Global Rehabilitation 2030 meeting in Geneva, Switzerland by WFOT President Samantha Shann and WFOT Executive Director Ritchard Ledgerd. At the meeting, WHO introduced a number of new resources designed to promote accessibility to rehabilitation services, including occupational therapy. The resources include:
 
The meeting was following by the launch of the World Rehabilitation Alliance, a network of organisations devoted to advocacy for improved access to rehabilitation. WFOT is a member of the World Rehabilitation Alliance workstreams relating to the Health Workforce, Primary Care and Emergency Services.

WFOT Innovative Change Agency Narrative

Advocating for the Inclusion of Occupational Therapy in a
Student Health Benefits Plan

A new narrative posted on the WFOT website describes how occupational therapy students advocated for insurance health benefit coverage of occupational therapy services for graduate students in their university.

This report is the latest in a series of narratives developed as part of the WFOT Innovation Change Agency Narratives (ICAN) Project. The ICAN Project supports the development of occupational therapy competencies needed for influencing change and advocating for the profession.

WFOT is accepting nominations from WFOT individual members for the following WFOT awards with a deadline of 29 October 2023:
 

WFOT Thelma Cardwell Foundation Award for Research

The WFOT Thelma Cardwell Foundation Award for Research provides funding for pilot projects or small-scale feasibility projects that can build or strengthen research capacity in occupational therapy.

WFOT Leadership and Innovation Award
